Upcycled Denim Jacket with Pieced Appliqued Giraffe
One-of-a-kind-upcycled denim jacket with string-pieced and appliqued giraffe.
This is a small woman’s 100% cotton jacket with regular buttons. I used a technique called string quilting to piece together the giraffe which I then appliqued directly to the jacket. It’s machine washable with cold water, then air dry.
It measures as follows:
17″ straight across the chest, armhole to armhole
22″ from top back of neck to back hem
17″ arm inseam (underarm to sleeve hem)
It has cuffs that can be rolled back to expose grosgrain ribbon, four front pockets (two at the sides, two on top) and no damage, holes, etc.
More than 10.5 million tons of used textiles (i.e., used clothing) winds up in landfills annually. I upcycle denim jackets and try to turn them into wearable art. My process is very thorough cleaning of each jackets, replacement of all brand labels, and then redesign, sometimes through quilting, sometimes embroidery. Please email me if you have questions.
