Papercut Sunlight Box with Lion Pride

$75.00

A pride of lions lounge on a partly fallen tree.  Cubs, juveniles, young females cluster around the male who stands guard over his family.  Two crowned cranes forage in the tall grass for insects, while African hawk-eagles circle overhead.

The male lion in this box is a favorite I worked with at a zoo.  He is beautiful inside and out.  The other lionesses and babies are amalgams of others I’ve worked with or photographed over the years.  I love crowned cranes too.  I’ve always wanted to see the tree-climbing lions of East Africa, but until I win the lottery, these lightboxes will remind me of a bucket-list trip.

This box measures about 5″ x 3.5″ x 1″.  Because each is hand-made, there may be slight variations in appearance from the photograph.

Description

Papercut lightboxes are magical little scenes made entirely of paper.  I design these small (5″ x 3.5″) scenes, transfer them to a CAD program, and laser cut each one on cardstock.  I then build the frames and layer the cardstock so that each has three or four layers of scenery plus a translucent layer to filter the light.

These boxes do not have electric lights installed.  Instead, the boxes can be put in your windowsill, and as the sun moves through the sky, the shadows in the boxes will change, altering their appearance.  These lightboxes also have small ribbons and could be hung from a Christmas tree.  If placed strategically in front of a Christmas tree light, other effects will occur.
